Briercliffe Surgery Update
We are writing to update you about recent changes at the practice.
As you may already be aware, there has been a change to the management team at the practice with effect from 29th May 2019. This is because the contract between East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (The CCG)* and the GP partnership at Briercliffe Medical Centre for the provision of GP services came to an end when the GPs at the practice dissolved their partnership on 28th May 2019.
In order to ensure that GP services continued uninterrupted the CCG awarded a contract to the Lancashire EU of GPs Limited (The EU)* until 31st March 2020. This is a short term measure until a permanent solution can be implemented.
The CCG, working with Briercliffe Medical Centre will be writing to all households registered with the practice to provide a more detailed update. In addition we have provided a “frequently asked questions” document which we hope will answer any further questions registered patients and stakeholders will have.
We are now offering seasonal influenza vaccinations at the surgery. Please contact reception to book your appointment.
Many patients fail to keep their appointments. If patients do not cancel in advance we cannot give the slot to anyone else who really needs it.
This is costly for the practice and wastes staff time and resources. Most of all it impacts on the length of time others have to wait for their appointments.
If you are unable to keep your appointment or no longer require it please let us know.
Appointments for smears are now available during the extended opening hours, on Monday evenings 6.30pm - 8.30pm.These can be booked in the usual way.
Please inform the practice if you are a registered organ/tissue donor. This information will be added to your medical record.
The Practice Nurses hold surgeries usually every weekday morning and afternoons. Appointments are available on Monday evenings until 8:15pm. A nurse can be seen by appointment and can help with:

Routine advice on caring for your baby is given by the doctor and health visitor in the Baby Clinic which is held on Tuesday afternoons at 1.30pm.
The practice runs a clinic for both type 1 and type 2 diabetics.

In response to recent emphasis on the prevention of illness particularly of heart disease, the above service is available. It usually consists of a short interview with the practice nurse to assess various health risks and includes a BP check. If you are over 45 and have not seen the doctor for 5 years you may wish to avail yourself of this service.
We hold an in-house Smoking Cessation Clinic between 14:30 and 18:00 each Monday evening. Please speak to the receptionist if you wish to book an appointment.
On Wednesdays between 14:00-15:00 the health visitor holds a drop in clinic, where your baby can be weighed and measured. Please can this be completed before your baby has their 8 week check with the GP.
